Debates and Documents in Ancient History

Series Editor(s): Emma Stafford, Shaun Tougher

A textbook series containing primary sources

These concise textbooks each focus on an important but relatively compact theme. Each volume is divided into two parts, the first an introductory account of the subject in question, the second a selection of translated source materials often including illustrations of archaeological and material evidence. The introduction describes the subject, sets it in context, and introduces the reader to the main issues of interpretation and debate. The second part displays and introduces a selection of relevant evidence and is linked to the first with numerous cross-references. The books are readable and informative and aim to stimulate an awareness of the kinds of material and documentary evidence available to the ancient historian - and the usually problematic nature of its interpretation.
