The marketing checklist

Your marketing checklist

The Edinburgh University Press marketing team are working to promote your book to bookshops, libraries and academics throughout the world. At the same time, we recognise that, when it comes to your work, you're the expert. Nobody knows your book better than you – and you probably know a lot of people who are very interested in your work! Here are some easy ways that you can help to spread the word to those working in your field.

Flyers

If you would like a flyer containing a discount code to promote your book, email your marketer and we'll send you a pdf of the flyer. Flyers are great for sharing at conferences, as a slide in presentations, as an email attachment… the list goes on!

Online

  • Share your book's webpage and the launch discount code NEW30 (for 30% off on our website) far and wide!
  • Share your flyer online. Email your marketer for details.

Social media

Email

  • Update your email signature to include a link to your book’s webpage.
  • Post an announcement to any mailing lists or listservs you're a member of.

Websites

  • Add your book’s details to any websites, Wikipedia pages or social media that you or your department have.
  • Create or update your author page at Amazon and ‘claim’ your new book.

Conferences and events

  • We regularly promote our books at leading conferences in North America, UK and Europe.
  • We keep our events page updated and share event details in subject bulletins to keep you informed.
  • Let us know if you are presenting at a conference or event. We can share the details on our social media channels.
  • Consider adding a slide with your book details at the end of your presentation.
  • If you would like to organise an event to celebrate your book, we can support this with online event promotion and a flyer. We need two months’ notice for any events you have planned.

Library recommendations

  • Check that your library has ordered a copy of your book.
  • If your book is an edited collection, remind your contributors to check their libraries have ordered a copy too.
  • Encourage your friends and contacts at other universities to request a copy of your book for their library.

Prizes

If there is a prize that you would like us to enter your book for, let your marketing executive know by email. Please make sure you let us know about a prize as soon as possible and at least one month before the closing date to give us enough time to prepare the materials. There are many book prizes out there but it's not possible for us to enter every book for every prize. We ask our authors and editors to pick the most relevant prize for their book.
