The Publishing Process
Writing Your Book
Once your book has been contracted, and throughout the writing process, your Assistant Commissioning Editor will keep in touch with you about your progress and to answer any questions you have.
- Style Guidelines – including information about clearing copyright permissions
- Illustration Submission Guidelines – special information for books with illustrations
From Manuscript to Finished Book
Once you have submitted your typescript to your editor, we will put you in touch with your Managing Desk Editor. Our Desk Editors are based in-house and take your book through the production process: editing, proofing, indexing (where appropriate) and typesetting. Your Desk Editor will liaise between you, the copy-editor and the typesetter to ensure a smooth, efficient production process.
The Marketing Campaign
Your Marketing Manager will start to promote your book from around one year before scheduled publication. Your APF (author promotional form) really helps us with marketing your book, so please take the time to complete this. Every book is promoted to libraries, academics and bookshops by our sales representatives, in our catalogues and on our website. Different book types have tailored campaigns to reach their target audience.
Around six weeks before publication, your Marketing Assistant will send you your marketing welcome pack with more information about how we are marketing your book and what you can do to help.
